Cinder was sitting up when we walked into a room off the bar’s left. He was on a pool table with a bandage around his abs.

My eyes fell on his broad, wide chest and I stared, just for a moment.

“How is he?” Maverick asked the female doctor in the room.

She smiled up at him, making something stir in my stomach. “He’ll be fine. He needs rest and just a few days to fully heal. It was pretty deep, the claw marks. Whatever made it was… inhuman.”

Maverick’s jaw tightened.

I snorted, rolling my eyes. “So are eight feet gargoyles. This scares you guys?”

She glared at me. “Who the fuck is she?”

“If you’re done, out,” Maverick ordered without telling her anything more.

She grabbed her little hospital bag and began moving from the room. I gave her a small wave and smile as she left. She made a disgusted noise while I was over here being friendly.

A gun was put to my head again by the silent gargoyle from the car. Axel and Daxon were here as well.

“Speak,” Maverick ordered.

“This is the second time I have to tell someone I’m not a dog.”

The gun pushed my head a bit, making me glare at the Rock silent guy.

“She saved me. Why are were treating her like this?” Cinder asked. “I just want to know what that thing was…”

I sighed. “I can’t say the name.”

The gun touched my head again. This time, I hit his wrist and punched his elbow to grab the gun. In lightning speed, I took the gun apart like I’ve done million times before and dropped it all to the ground.

“That was hot,” Cinder muttered.

“Right? I worked hard on that!” I laughed, but looking at Maverick, I could tell he wasn’t impressed. “I refuse to say its name because we can’t. The creature. S-k-i-n… walker.”

“Skinwalker?” Daxon said.

My hands waved around. “Congratulations, you can spell and say the words, but are you really that fucking stupid? I just said we can’t say it’s name!”

“What do you mean?” Cinder asked.

“They can’t talk about. Not their name, at least, or they…. know things about you. No small details like stealing a cup from a diner. But they lure people to their death by using their faces or voices.”

“Like sirens?” Cinder asked.

“Kind of. Just ugly and out of water and can’t sing.”

“And the kid?”

I looked down. “A victim from before. You wouldn’t have been able to save him. They were just using his voice, unable to use his face because he was most likely not alive anymore.”

Cinder sighed, looking down.

“What were you guys even doing out there?” Axel asked.

I shut my mouth, shrugging.

“Certainly, you weren’t doing anything good,” he implied.

I shrugged again.

“Why did you steal my car?” Maverick asked, leaning against a cabinet.

“That car is way too small for your fat ass. There’s no way it’s yours,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Who the fuck are you and what are you doing here?” Daxon asked.

I blinked at him, taking in the various tattoos and vines covering his arms.
